  • Hottest days in DENMARK

These 3 days are one of the hottest days here for summer! 23rd of June marked the Sankt Hans Aften where the Danes celebrate the Midsummer’s Eve. It is possible the longest daylight period plus minus one or two days or on this day. Sankt Hans is generally celebrated with a dinner at home with family and friends followed by a stroll to a community bonfire, often by the beach, in a park, or on the shore of one of Denmark’s many lakes.

Husband had a summer party and it does seem so much fun, with all the activities, good weather and also the bonfire where everyone gathers around and sing Midsommersangen.

Here its how it sounds like : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4i-5Df0oVc

After all the partying, Friday is also the graduation day of all students from gymnasium ( equivalent to JC/POLY in singapore) They will be in trucks where one of the classmate will organise and the truck would go around the neighbourhood which all of them live in to get blessing and celebrate. It was fun watching all the honking and partying going on in the truck. What a wonderful and happy occasion, the people here really do know how to work hard and play hard. No wonder this is the country with the highest happiness index in the world.

Tried a new recipe on Friday, since its been a while that husband is working from home. Its korean spicy pork recipe! It was easy and so yummy! I guess it cheaper and nice to cook Asian food ourselves then to eat out in Denmark as they are really not huge on food.

I have yet to find a nice Korean restaurant at the moment. Will definitely update if we do spot one!

Tadah! Egg rice soup and spicy pork!

Since temperatures are humid and also hitting 30 degrees, we are finally in short sleeves and shorts when we are out in the streets. Basking in the warm sunlight, enjoying drinks with good company!

    OOTD on sat
    Brunch at mad og kaffe

Hung out with adam’s colleague before he is flying back to SG. Well its nice to have some social life once in awhile 😊 Hopefully the temperatures get better as it does get a little warm in the night to sleep.

Signing off today till the next updates!

  • Visit to the Pretty Fishing Village

Its amazing how there is always a day on the weekend where it is a sunny day and the other is rainy here in Denmark. Usually that’s how I pick or choose the day to go out for a visit. So this time round, its a SUNNY SAT and off we gooooo!

We usually start the day in the noon and took a train to Dragor, a small fishing village in Denmark. It was like a 45 mins train ride, to the far end, further of the airport, southern tip of Amager.  In early 16th century, the then king invited a bunch of Dutch farmers to settle down in the nearby town Store Magledy to help Danish people with farming and agriculture.  Ever since then, the Dutch population in this region increased. You will be able to see Dutch influences in the small little town.

Me and Dam enjoyed the whole chill and peaceful vibes at this place were we just walked casually around, have some ice cream and also to sit at a cafe to just people watch and enjoy the sun. It is indeed true that we will feel guilty if we are not outdoors when the sun is out. The days here in Denmark is so long now, where the sun rises at 4.20 am and the sun sets at 9.50pm. I cannot imagine what it would be like during the winter.

Photo dump on our trip at Dragor:

Some coffee before we head off for dinner

Excited for dinner tonight cause we will be going to try some korean food! Made a reservation at SSAM korean restaurant! Its really hard to find any korean restaurants here! Jap restaurants are more common!

Interior and kpop music plus the smell of kimchi. WOW, that really feels like homeee. We ordered fried chicken, kimchi jjigae and also kimbap with soju!

Cant say we are not disappointed as the portions are pretty small and the korean fried chicken was like chicken balls 🤦🏻‍♀️

    Not forgetting a selfie!

Thats all for the day folks!

  • Nice Chill Weekend

One of the chill weekend which we had. This would have been our normal routine back in SG if we had not relocated to Denmark. Saturday was housework day and the day which we sleep in since I had sign the both of us up for hot HIIT pilates class on sunday morning.

It was nice to have no plans for the week and just chill and laze in bed and just go out for movies and dinner 🙂

Lucky me/us managed to coincide with the yoga centre’s 9th anniversary and we managed to book a free class to try out pilates in a hot room. Definitely one of the best decision made! It was definitely a dread to wake up early even on a Sunday to head out for exercise, but no regrets. The class was so encouraging with so much positivity. We love the instructor and she was very attentive to adam, giving him alot of encouragement and also modifying the poses to make it easier for adam to do.

Its been almost 2.5 months that we have arrived in Denmark, and I am happy to say that I am slowly adapting to life here. It is really nice having that freedom but of course it comes with more responsibilities also, like housework and finances management. (bank account opening here is a pain as it takes 30 business days for review)

Event setup at the yoga centre ytd 😍 love the ginger shots!
The huge studio and not so flattering photos of us

Instead of just going for runs (which we hope we will be doing in summer), pilates would be a good alternative exercise for both of us to lead a healthier lifestyle here in Denmark. Strengthen our core and build muscles!

Looking forward to our first friend visit next month!

    Refreshed faces after pilates!!! 😊

Thankfully the weather forecast here is pretty accurate! We made it home and was all showered and ready for nap when the rain came after the sunny morning!

Check out the hail! I didnt know it could happen even in SUMMER! 😂

  • Last PH weekend before Christmas

Denmark public holidays are mostly in the first half of the year. So lucky for us, we get to have lesser work days in the inital adapting stage since there are so many PH.

White Sunday/Monday, is the last PH before Christmas so why not travel out and enjoy since its a short work week! Plus summer is almost here, so the weather is really so good!

Its been so long since I wore sleeveless and also not wear heat tech and that temperatures are above 20 degrees! And so we decided to take a trip North to visit helsingor where the Kronborg castle (A UNESCO Heritage Site) which Shakespeare had written about hamlet.

Surprisingly we had a straight train to helsingor from our place, so off we went in our first DSB train. It was a mere 35 mins train right and oh my gosh, I am so loving the temperature.

    Our first DSB train right!
Happy us in lesser clothes and appreciating the good weather

Got a shocked when we arrived at helsingor station! Seemed like there is a summer party as we see heap lots of youngsters in bikinis and also topless guys drinking and walking towards the castle. WOW, SUMMER IS REALLY HEREEEE. Found out that there is a beer run on the 1st sunday of June yearly, where people walked from the previous train station to helsingor for 4km and then end at a party at this station.

COOL SIGHTINGS! I mean its not usual to see this in SG. We are not that sunloving as our temperature and humidity keeps us off the streets most of the time 😂

    The beautiful Kronborg castle
Sweden is just across the sea!

The amount of castles in Denmark and also their history is so rich, that I think the shallow me, got a little listless after a while 😅 But it was a nice change of environment! We dont get to see these in Asian countries! The building, architecture is a huge difference!

Large dining halls in the castle
    Dressing back then 😊
The church which is the only portion which didnt get burn during the fire, while the rest of the castle was being rebuilt!

We went to see the maritime museum too! Since we had the CPH card, so why not make full use of our privilege! It was really a museum of all the shipping history. From war times, to the ships used to transport the different kinds of things across the world. WOW shipping is HUGE! But mostly driven by consumerism too!

Soon it was dinner time and we went off to the nearby food street for dinner. Husband was a little worried initially due to the crowd and many rowdy behavior since many people were like maybe half drunk from the beer run already. But i decided to go ahead to have a look since there is so much good reviews about the fish and chips place.

Ordered seafood platter and also a chicken yaki soba and found a nice quiet corner where we both had our early dinner.

ZOMGGG! One of the best Japanese food I had since we arrived in Denmark

    Chicken yakisoba

    Hello from the SUMS!

Happy belly full us continued to walk a little to explore the helsingor neighbourhood before we slowly headed home. Life is good! Summer seemed like a extended day since the sun only sets after 945pm.

We really love the skies here. 😍

Thats all for now! One last attraction tomorrow at the Glyptoteket before our CPH card expires at 130pm! Thats all folks!

  • Our First Movie in Denmark

Learning to diligently update this little writing corner of mine to document this one special gap year that I am taking from my work to join my husband for his relocation in Denmark here for a year. Definitely the journey has not been easy. Growing up in SG make me appreciate alot of things and also how sheltered my life is. Once again, I would still take on this opportunity as it is really good exposure and also a good way for you to learn more about yourself!

Managed to settle our second rent for the month and so thank you for another month of roof over my head. We have yet to have our bank accounts open yet as it takes 30 business day, so really looking forward when it is open and we are also still waiting for our items to be shipped from Singapore to Denmark. It was really lucky that we found a furnished house within our given timeline and is able to settle in somewhere.

Next priority is to start our Danish classes soon and live Danishly by joining some clubs and also exercising more!

Weekends are here once again and we always have very lazy weekends, just like how it is back home. I guess we are more home people and the weather, has make me want to leave house alot lesser too. But kudos, we decided to book a movie and have our first movie experience here.

Booked tickets online at MovieHouse Hellerup, tickets were 290.00 DKK for 2 pax, about double the price back in SG on weekends but the seats here are a little like gold class version.

Entrance with red carpet into the building
    Getting my gummies
Nice beer for a nice movie! Loads of leg space and also its a reclining chair
Very spacious and comfy experience we have

It was really a worthwhile experience and both me and my husband loved the whole entire movie experience. Entering to the building, to the ticketing/food counter to the cinema theatre, we both love the entire experience. The main difference, usually in SG we only have like popcorn, nachos and chips for snacks, whereas here in Denmark, there is this whole candy section where you get to pick your gummies and weigh them to pay them on top of the popcorn or drinks/alcohol which you would like to bring in with you to the movie.

You also dont have to show your tickets to enter the screening hall. The trust system here in Europe is amazing. Everyone clears their rubbish at the end of the show too. The movie TOPGUN: MAVERICK was awesome too! It is definitely one of the better shows I have seen in awhile since COVID. Tom Cruise really aged well so does Jennifer Connelly. 10/10!

Overall I am super impressed and am looking forward to many more movies upcoming this year! We both are definitely going to catch Jurassic World coming up in June 2022.
