#4 wearing contacts for prolonged periods
whoo~ it’s the fourth post already.I’m more than halfway done with the seven day challenge when i complete this post 🙂 Okay, i’m sure all of you know what i contact lenses problem i will be addressing today: yeappp it’s the issue of wearing lenses for prolonged periods!
this is a common issue which many of the uni students are facing. Compared to secondary and college life, university timetable is so FREAKING looOONg. though there are lesser classes to attend, but there are other activities like meetings, presentations rehearsals or dinner dates with friends 🙂 that would drag on for the whole day, causing one to feel dryness or discomfort in the eyes as one has worn the contacts for a long time. It has always been liddat since i started SMU and especially so in my last 2 years in school. I felt like this yesterday, it was a long day for me too! well i had meeting early in the morning at 9am, stayed in school to revise and complete my work and had dinner and some light shopping with my awesome friend mich 😀 so i wore contacts since 7.30am all the way till the time i reached home which was 11pm. though i didnt feel any discomfort cuz i’m rather used to wearing contacts for prolonged periods , but i know it’s bad for my eyes, cuz there were redness in my eyes during parts of the day. i guess probably the next time i should bother less about my appearance in school and bring my specs to change after the recommended hours of contact lens wear of not more than 8-10 hours continuously for up to 5 days a week 🙂
Hmm so why should one not wear contact lenses for prolonged period of time?
Well it’s because : Wearing contact lenses for long hours deprive eye tissues of oxygen and encourages the growth of bacteria which thrives in anaerobic environments.Contact lenses also block the film of tears from the cornea, thus hindering its crucial role of washing out bacteria on the cornea. When contact lenses are worn for long hours, there is an increased risk of eye infections. (sounds scary huh??)
In order to practice good eye care habits : To prevent wearing contact lenses for more than recommended hours, bring spectacles with you and only wear contact lenses for the necessary activities in the day. If you are required to be with contact lenses for the whole day, remember to bring lubricating eye drops to prevent dry eyes 😀

remember to bring lubricating eye drops to prevent dry eyes! well at the end of the day, it’s the longer term benefits that we should think off 🙂 so
Always ensure the health of your eyes, for you’ll be rewarded with sights truly worth keeping

#3 Lack of regular eye checks
i haven been to the optician to check my eyes for a year i think. The last time i went to check my eye was because i need to get my spectacles done. well truthfully, i really dislike gg to the optician to have my eyes checked as i worry if my eyesight is getting worser each time i check. And having to read the eye test chart is such a pain especially when i cant read the last few lines carefully.

i cant read the last line already! Getting an eye check yearly is definitely a good habit that one should develop and should not only do it when one feels discomfort in the usage of our contact lenses. It is also necessary to get your eye checks when there are symptoms like redness, swelling, itch or other signs of eye infections. Never attempt to self treat or neglect to seek professional advice in these cases.
Having regular eye checks is important as one should ensure that:
- the prescription is up-to-date
- the health of the eye, the curvature of the cornea is checked
- inspection of the eye for microscopic complications related to wearing a contact lens (early detection means less risk of severe eye infections) is conducted
- And that abnormal blood vessel growth related to a lack of oxygen to the cornea does not occurs.
well therefore, having eye checks regularly is important as with healthy eyesight we get to enjoy beautiful sights like this:

Love the beach
awwww arent they so cute??? Once again ““Always ensure the health of your eyes, for you’ll be rewarded with sights truly worth keeping.”

#2 POST of the day
It’s the second post of already! The problem that i am going to address today is something which i am guilty of : Lack of proper cleaning procedures
After a long day in school, from project meetings, classes, gym and dinner i would more often than not feel very tired!!Just like today, i feel exhausted though i had sooOO much fun over dinner with my loves.

awesome dinner with my girls till late And usually whenever i remove or wear my contact lenses, i would only use saline solution to rinse and wash the lenses and for the past 8 years of my life, i always though that it was sufficient and that it was the proper cleaning method. ALAS, due to an eye infection that happened a year ago, my optician told me that i haven been conducting the right cleaning procedures at all. She held my lenses under the light and made me observe the tiny white substance on my lenses which are so called protein produced by my eye to fight like bacteria or stuffs as a result of my improper cleaning procedure. I was really frightened by it, cuz i always thought i had clean it properly. So after the incident, i have learnt that the proper procedure for cleaning contact lenses would be:
- Wash your hands thoroughly before handling your contact lenses.
- Perform all contact lens care steps (clean, rinse, disinfect!) every time you remove your lenses from your eyes. YOU SHOULD RUB AND RINSE to make sure that it is clean!
- Use only fresh contact lens care solutions that are recommended by your eyecare professional — and never tap water!
- Store contact lenses in contact lens case and soak with solution.
these steps should be adhere to every single time you remove your lenses. It may seem and sound easy but we should never allow our laziness to give us the excuse to skip any single step! I too feel lazy at times to perform these procedures but remember :
Always ensure the health of your eyes, for you’ll be rewarded with sights truly worth keeping!

#1 No to unauthorized retailer
It’s my first out of the seven posts for “At first Sight” campaign. Truthfully, I’m really excited to write this post as it’s my first time doing this kind of things. So please bear with me if you find my post lengthy or boring, well just hang in there and just keep reading on. I’m sure it would be a meaningful post and that you will learn something awesome and useful from it!
I just received my Ambassodor kit from karyn! thanks for making your way down to SMU to pass me the bag. Love the polka dot bag which looks so sweet and i’m so excited about the cosmetic lenses cuz i have never used it before. Photos time of the Ambassador kit!

cosmetic lenses, face mask etc
for a clearer view!
cosmetic lenses from misaki 🙂 ~ The human eye is an important organ which enable us to see all the BEAUTIFUL things in the world, thus it is essential for us to really take good care of it. I know we always say things like :”aiya, once in a while only, nevermind lahh, we wun so easily get eye infection” or “this kind of things will never happen to me!” and truthfully, i confess i am also one of the culprits who say such things, i have learn to realise that “prevention is better than cure”, so this is why i participated in this campaign.
The recent news about increasing number of youths suffering from eye infections due to the purchasing of contact lenses from blog shops has made me thinking alot these days. Being students, our love for better appearance and convenience but lack of resources ($) have resulted in some of us resorting to purchase contact lenses from unauthorized retailers to save $ and to reduce costs. Well, i can totally understand cuz from our meager allowances, we have to plan to save, eat, shopping, transportation costs and blah blah blah. How is these allowances enough?? It is indeed true that buying from unauthorized retailers like blog shops could be a cheaper option, but what are the dangers of buying from these retailers and is it worth it to putting your eye health on the line?

WORTH IT? There has been a case last year where a 17 year old teenage girl bought a pair of colored contact lenses from online sources, never thinking that it could be dangerous. What started out as a bid to save money soon developed into a contact lens induced infection that resulted in pain and redness in the young lady’s left eye. She had to be admitted into the hospital and treated with antibiotics and corticosteroids before her condition eventually improved. Therefore think twice before clicking on that check-out button at the online contact lenses blog shop. You might just end up paying way more than you bargained for.
Back to the topic on cosmetic lenses, i have been lucky to be entitled 2 pairs of Misaki contact lenses to try out as part of this campign. Misaki was established in 2009 in Singapore and was awarded a certificate of Registration to HSA TS-01:R2 Good Distribution Practice for Medical Devices Management System. It has attained OEM manufacturer certification with factory in Korea. As we all know that Korea is well-known for its technology for cosmetics and personal beauty products, it definitely seem like it a safe and trustworthy cosmetic brand to consider. Their contact lenses even has this S.P Process which is said to “infiltrate the cosmetic colour between the inside and outside layer of the contact lens, which makes the wearing feeling comfortable and the colour is not decolourized.” HMMM interesting~ (to find out more about misaki, click here : http://misakicon.com/index.php)
Additionally, They offer a wide variety of products with up to 6 series and many different colors for individuals to choose from. I remembered that i was spoilt for choice when i was asked to select one of the product. They have series like tone natural colors ( to suit the serious side of you, or for first timers who are afraid to try something too different) to like series such as 4 tone colors and circle and emotion. Misaki contact lenses are available and distributed in various optical shops: http://www.misakicon.com/wheretobuy.php
Coming to the end of my first post already, well it seems damn wordy and lengthy right?? To sum it up, it is important that we always purchase from authorized & reliable retailers, why put our eye at risk just for that few dollars of savings? In exchange for better quality and a peace of mind, it is still better to buy from licensed opticians or retailer.
At the end of the day the take-home message i hope you peeps will remember is that
” Always ensure the health of your eyes, for you’ll be rewarded with sights truly worth keeping! “
