Blood drive in School

i have always wanted to donate my blood and experience how is it like to do a good deed since i was in junior college, but because i was under the age of 21, if i didnt get the consent of my parents, i would not be able to do so. As usual, my paranoid but loving mother refuses to allow me to donate for fear of the many many reasons even though i reassured her that it is safe and that all the medical equipments are clean and sterilized and the medical officers would not want to sabotage the blood that they have collected but to no avail. Now that i am already pass that age of 21 and i no longer require my parent’s consent, so when i saw the emailer this time round, i decided to 先斩后奏 and just go with it before telling my mother. aside from being a lousy daughter, but this has been something that i really really wanted to do in my life, i mean i could save someone’s life with my blood and it’s not something life-threatening to me so why not??

going to the donation drive was filled with excitement and anxiety for me. I didnt manage to pull any friends along, so i went for it myself. The waiting part was scary, cuz i wondered if the iron test and the poking of the needle would hurt. the process was rather meticulous, we had to fill up a declaration form first, den register, medical check, iron level test before the donation. The medical staff were nice and friendly, reassuring me that it will not hurt that much and it really didnt hurt at all. The process of blood donation was really fast like it took probably 15-20mins to fill up a packet? but the feeling of watching the blood flowing out is weird. the tube that went across my wrist felt warm as the blood flowed downwards to fill the packet. such an interesting experience, i didnt feel any difference just weak after the donation (thank god) and took milo and my fav biscuit to replenish the glucose in my body. It was really a satisfying and interesting experience for me which i had learnt a lot of stuff through this blood donation 🙂 Additionally, i was happier to know that i could donate as the O blood stock was critically low, so my blood could indeed really help!

Goodies which i had gotten from the blood drive.

MY HAPPY moment after the donation

they even gave me iron tablets to take everyday after the donation

This blood donation make me realize a few things:

  1. I’m really thankful for my mum for making me such a healthy person to be able to help others. Even though she was furious when i told her in the end, she understood that this is something i really really wanted to do in my life
  2. That i haven been really doing much voluntary services to give back to the society. We all have been too caught up with our busy, hectic school schedules to notice and help and care for others. Probably i should sign up with some volunteer groups and start volunteering to help others, something which i have been wanting to do very much. it would be a great and meaningful way for me to spend my time while i’m searching for my job after graduating. HMM that shall be the PLAN 😀
