#4 wearing contacts for prolonged periods

whoo~ it’s the fourth post already.I’m more than halfway done with the seven day challenge when i complete this post 🙂 Okay, i’m sure all of you know what i contact lenses problem i will be addressing today: yeappp it’s the issue of wearing lenses for prolonged periods!

this is a common issue which many of the uni students are facing. Compared to secondary and college life, university timetable is so FREAKING looOONg. though there are lesser classes to attend, but there are other activities like meetings, presentations rehearsals or dinner dates with friends 🙂 that would drag on for the whole day, causing one to feel dryness or discomfort in the eyes as one has worn the contacts for a long time. It has always been liddat since i started SMU and especially so in my last 2 years in school.  I felt like this yesterday, it was a long day for me too! well i had meeting early in the morning at 9am, stayed in school to revise and complete my work and had dinner and some light shopping with my awesome friend mich 😀 so i wore contacts since 7.30am all the way till the time i reached home which was 11pm. though i didnt feel any discomfort cuz i’m rather used to wearing contacts for prolonged periods , but i know it’s bad for my eyes, cuz there were redness in my eyes during parts of the day. i guess probably the next time i should bother less about my appearance in school and bring my specs to change after the recommended hours of contact lens wear of not more than 8-10 hours continuously for up to 5 days a week 🙂

Hmm so why should one not wear contact lenses for prolonged period of time?

Well it’s because : Wearing contact lenses for long hours deprive eye tissues of oxygen and encourages the growth of bacteria which thrives in anaerobic environments.Contact lenses also block the film of tears from the cornea, thus hindering its crucial role of washing out bacteria on the cornea. When contact lenses are worn for long hours, there is an increased risk of eye infections. (sounds scary huh??)

In order to practice good eye care habits : To prevent wearing contact lenses for more than recommended hours, bring spectacles with you and only wear contact lenses for the necessary activities in the day. If you are required to be with contact lenses for the whole day, remember to bring lubricating eye drops to prevent dry eyes 😀

remember to bring lubricating eye drops to prevent dry eyes!

well at the end of the day, it’s the longer term benefits that we should think off 🙂 so

Always ensure the health of your eyes, for you’ll be rewarded with sights truly worth keeping
